I come at this truth from a Christian perspective, but I agree with Brant Cortright who writes in his book, Integral Psychology,

"Psychology opens the frontal, outer levels of the heart but is utterly lost when it attempts to go farther. Spirituality opens the inner heart but creates chaos in applying its strategies to ordinary life and relationships."

This is why I can offer paychotherapy to people from all traditions, and spiritual counseling to people from the Christian tradition.
