IFS Skills for Spiritual Counselors

IFS Skills Integration for therapists, coaches and spiritual counselors. I use the interventions developed in IFS for use with the archetypes of the wounded, exiled child, the armored protectors and the Self, who often is associated with a spiritual sense of existence.

I understand Spiritual Counseling as helping a counselee become aware of  their spiritual worldview and values and see how to apply them to their everyday circumstances. In IFS, the authentic Self of the counselee leads the rest of the parts of the client. In spiritual counseling, however, the counselee is leaning on a higher wisdom for guidance.

IFS informed spiritual counseling facilitates the counselee’s use of IFS skills to listen to their understanding of this higher wisdom in relation to their wounded, emotional parts and protector parts.  This is the first step for a spiritual counselor to use while helping a counselee who is encountering trouble.

Then, if the counselee specifically sought out a counselor from a specific tradition, the counselor can include sessions with mentoring and teaching aspects to them. But without the initial understanding of the world view and values of the counselee a growth in the spiritual tradition will not be lasting.
